I had always believed this to be the first gen Camry.
But tonight, I pulled into the parking lot of Panda to grab dinner, and thought, “Wow, look at that really clean Stanza! Wait, it says Toyota on the grille!”

I forget how small midsizers were in the 80's, and my love of 80's boxes is no secret either. This one was just slightly off-balance for me...although I imagine it would look fine as a coupe. Despite its small size, I was genuinely impressed with the legroom in the back seat. This thing had Panther-body footwells in the back, all within a package the size of a modern Corolla.
Of course, if this thing gets hit by a bro-dozer, everyone is likely dead, sadly. For as nice as the roominess is in a compact package, airbags, impact beams, and crumple zones sure are nice, too. Props to the owner for keeping this car so pristine.

Before that there was the Celica Camry (but not in the US).

I don’t ever think I’ve seen a 1st gen in person! I do remember my grandpa having a maroon 2nd gen though! You RARELY ever see 2nd gens though. Can’t remember the last time I saw one.

Why do I have the feeling you’re looking for one right this moment?

Bonus third gen Camry.
Also, what’d you get? I’m craving Panda.

Beijing Beef and Teriyaki Chicken. The Shour Standard.
As an Asian-American raised by an immigrant mother, I should have more pride in my choices. But she’s from Thailand, and Panda isn’t counterfeit Thai, it’s counterfeit Chinese. If anything, it’s really just American food that calls itself Chinese, and since I’m American, I suppose I shouldn’t feel any shame at all. At least I eat it with chopsticks.

I’m Colombian, so I have a very standard taste in Panda food. I eat with chopsticks too (the right way I may add).
I do one of two:
Fried rice, orange chicken, and veggies
OR
Fried rice, orange chicken, and broccoli beef
If I feel like it, I’ll get the “bigger plate” and take some more orange chicken or teriyaki chicken as a snack for later.

I have now looked. The five-door is indeed prettier! (I’m a Mazda man first...liftback and hatch back sedans are five-doors. Fight me.)
I still think the first gen 626 (especially the coupe!) and the Datsun 910 were prettier, though.
Despite finding something slightly off with this particular Camry, I can look at it and almost see a direct progressive line leading to the Z10 and Z20 Soarers, which I feel to be among the most beautiful cars Toyota has ever designed.

I owned two of these. They were nice, really wish I would’ve taken better care of them but I was a stupid highschool kid. The one had a moon roof and a double din radio with equalizer!

We had of those (1986) in gorgeous maroon when I was a kid. Manual too. My parents still had it into the late 90’s
